INTO THE WILD ..... A Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway Adventure
"Into the Wild" is the ultimate overlanding adventure through Kentucky’s rugged Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway, a journey that pushes the limits of grit, gear, and teamwork. Venture Unknown will guide you through the most challenging sections of the DBBB, tackling iconic trails like Pistol Creek, Igo Ridge, Clifton Road, and the infamous Cold Iron Fork. But the adventure doesn’t stop there—prepare to marvel at the breathtaking Fincastle Rock and the serene beauty of Spaas Creek. Along rocky trails, rugged climbs, creek crossings, and dense forest , you’ll discover towering sandstone cliffs, hidden waterfalls, and the untamed beauty of Kentucky’s wilderness, but on this one....you'll have to earn it!! Around the campfire, bonds will be forged as you share stories of triumph and determination. NOTE: It is possible to run our DBBB Kentucky Fried Camping trip concurrently with this one. Dates for that one are Oct 16th - Oct 20th. You would need to register separately for that ride if choosing this option. The total length 12 days. Oct 16th - Oct 27th

Thurs Oct 23rd*** Take your time to arrive at rally camp
Friday Oct 24th*** Friday morning we will begin with Spaas Creek. As the day progresses the difficulty of trails will as well. Each hour will be preparing us for the next. Ending our first day we will have accomplished Igo, Ridge, Clifton, Wayne Benson, and then COLD IRON FORK! Lastly Pumpkin Hollow is in store for a night ride. We will land back at camp and celebrate the day with a cocktail, dinner, and a warm fire. This is just DAY 1!!!
Saturday Oct 25th *** Second day! We still have Mountain Springs Road to conquer, Hell Creek rd, and then the iconic Fincastle Rock!
Sunday Oct 26th *** Dont let Monday ruin your Sunday! Because to top it all off is Pistol Creek!! A journey that takes you within a small gourge filled with shallow creek crossings, beautiful rock formations, and promises to leave its mark as one of your favorite trails of the trip. We end Sunday evening to unwind at a camp we affectionally call Waterfall Camp. Everyday will be filled with new routes, new camps, and new stories to tell.
Monday Oct 27th*** We will all begin our trek back home left with a feeling of accomplishment and a sense of camaraderie undiscovered prior to this journey!!
Daily routine
This is a TRUE overlanding trip. Meaning we move camps everyday.
Wake up around 7am, cook breakfast, 830am we will huddle and be ready to depart everyday by 9am. Remember things can happen. Always bring your adventurous spirit.

Please understand this trip is designed to test our teamwork, our rigs, and our spirits limits! Wheel rash and pin strips are inevitable, long seat times are very possible, camp has to be discovered, you will get muddy, wet, and tested. Body damage is not intended and we battle to avoid it but is possible. This is the very essence of adventure. Its unexpected, exhilarating, and the very definition of VENTURE UNKNOWN.

Dispersed camping that changes nightly. Do not depend on facilities, water, or power. We can help preparing you prepare for this type of adventure. If interested in personal recommendations or encouragement please feel free to contact us.
What to bring?
Everything to be self-sustained for multiple days in the wild.
Proper clothing for the season,
Footwear (water resistant boots recommended),
Plenty of food, including trail snacks
Cooking apparatus
First aid kit and fire extinguisher
Rain gear
Chainsaw gas or electric
Downloaded offline maps and paper maps,
Portable toilet
Auxiliary fuel is also HIGHLY recommended.
Most importantly, the right attitude.
If you forgot something we will give you the shirt off our back but please plan ahead. Don't be shy, ask questions. We love to help people enjoy this hobby.
Communications
Before the trip
With all VU4 difficulty trips, we will schedule 2 calls via Google Meet leading up to departure.
First one, will be for introduction, questions, and to discuss expectations.
Second one, will be a wheels up call to ensure final prep is a go!
I will create 2 options to join each call. It is mandatory to attend these short meetings.
We will be available for any questions you may have via phone, messenger, or email.
We will also create a team chat via FB messenger for all that are planning to come appx one month before the departure.
During the trip
We use GMRS radios during our rides. We highly recommend this type of communications. If you need recommendations on what to buy we will be glad to help. If you aren't able to secure a radio for the ride, we will provide a loaner. We will use GMRS CH17 (462.600)
VU will also have an active starlink avail to log into to send messages back home. As well as we carry satellite communicator for safety.
