About the Event

POTTS and PUDDLES

with Venture Unknown

An Overland Experience Like No Other – Adventure, Camaraderie & a Cause! 🔥

Alright Venture Unknown, lets get ready for an unforgettable multi-day overland adventure through some of Western Virginia’s most breathtaking and rugged terrain, all in support of the Venture Unknown Foundation and future stewardship events like Sweep up the Southeast!

This isn’t just a trail ride—it’s an expedition, a challenge, and a celebration of the overlanding community. We’ll traverse legendary trails like Potts Mountain Jeep Trail, tackle the thrilling obstacles of Bald Mountain, and soak in the stunning views from Flagpole Knob, all while camping under the stars in true backcountry style.

🏕️ Wild Camping & Team-Based Adventure 🚙

This isn’t your typical overland trip—3 separate teams will navigate trails together, sharing in both the challenges and the triumphs. Each team will have its own captain at the helm, but we all come together for camaraderie, storytelling, and the kind of campfire moments that make these adventures legendary. Whether you're new to overlanding or a seasoned veteran, this event is built for teamwork, fun, and epic exploration.

📍 Journey Highlights .....JUST TO NAME A FEW

🔹 Kickoff at Creekside Camp – Settle in at our beautiful basecamp before launching into the adventure!

🔹 Potts Mountain Jeep Trail – A thrilling mix of technical terrain and stunning mountain views.

🔹 Bald Mountain – Test your rig and your skills on this classic Virginia trail.

🔹 Flagpole Knob – Take in one of the most breathtaking overlooks in the region.

🔹 Dispersed Camping – Experience the true overland spirit with remote, wild campsites each night.

🔹 Final Stop: Creekside Camp – After the adventure, we return back where we started at The Creekside Camp for an epic night of tacos, swimming, and Movies in the Wild!

🎬 Taco Night & Movies in the Wild 🍽️🌙

After 3 days on the trail, we return to where it all began—Creekside Camp—for a night of celebration! Enjoy a well-earned taco feast, kick back by the fire, take a dip in the water, and relive the adventure with a classic outdoor movie screening under the stars.

💚 Overlanding for a Cause

Every mile traveled, every tire turned, and every trail conquered helps fund future stewardship events like Sweep up the Southeast. This rally is more than just an adventure—it’s about giving back to the public lands that make these journeys possible.

So, if you’re ready for challenging trails, stunning landscapes, wild camping, and an epic finale filled with good food, good company, and a big screen under the stars—this is your kind of event.

👊 Lock in your spot, gear up your rig, and get ready for an overlanding experience you won’t forget!

📅 The Timeline

🏁 Rally Day – Wednesday, Aug 6

Travel Day Welcome to Creekside Camp, our home base and final destination for this epic journey. Set up camp, meet your team, and relax under the stars as we get ready for the adventure ahead. Tonight is about good company, final gear checks, and soaking up the calm before the adventure begins.

🚙 Trail Day 1 – Thursday, Aug 7

🎯 Route: Big Levels via Blue Ridge Parkway | 🛞 Trail Rating: Moderate Wake up and get your engines—and coffee—fired up! After an 8:30 AM Driver’s Meeting, we roll out toward the legendary Blue Ridge Parkway, where scenic mountain vistas will have us stopping for photo ops and a deep breath of fresh mountain air.

After winding through these stunning highlands, we set our sights on Big Levels, a well-loved moderate-rated trail with plenty of off-road fun. Don’t be surprised if your rig earns some "trail tattoos" (pinstripes)—but hey, that’s just the price of adventure!

🎒 End of the Day: Dispersed camping under the stars! Prepare great food, gather around a warm fire, and share stories from the day’s ride.

🚙 Trail Day 2 – Friday, Aug 8

🎯 Route: Union Springs → Flagpole Knob → Reddish Knob | 🏞️ Views, Creeks & Pure Overlanding Bliss Wake up with the sunrise over the mountains, grab a cup of coffee, and fire up those rigs—we’ve got more exploring to do!

Today’s ride is a perfect mix of scenic trails, water crossings, and elevation climbs, as we make our way through Union Springs and up to Flagpole Knob—one of Virginia’s most breathtaking 360° overlooks. But wait, we’re not done! We’ll continue onward to Reddish Knob, another jaw-dropping high-elevation spot that’s perfect for taking it all in.

🎒 End of the Day: Our riverside camp awaits! Crack open a cold one, settle by the fire, and enjoy camaraderie, cocktails, and a whole lot of laughter as the night winds down.

🚙 Trail Day 3 – Saturday, Aug 9

🎯 Route: Potts Mountain Jeep Trail | ⚠️ Trail Rating: Difficult (Alternative Route Available!) This is it—the moment you’ve been waiting for! Potts Mountain Jeep Trail has a reputation as one of Virginia’s most challenging trails, and we’re taking it on.

After a safety briefing at 8:30 AM, we’ll hit the trail and work our way through rocky sections, tight passes, and technical obstacles. The good news? Potts can be as difficult as you want it to be—many obstacles have bypasses, so you can choose your adventure.

You’ll know you’re halfway when we reach the beautiful mountain-top meadow, the perfect place for a deep breath before tackling the rest of the trail. Not up for Potts? No worries—our designated Alternative Route Captain will lead a fun and scenic way back to basecamp.

🎒 End of the Day: We celebrate with…🌮 Taco Night! Feast on a well-earned meal back at Creekside Camp!🏊 Take a dip in the creek and cool off after an incredible ride.🔥 Campfire camaraderie—swapping stories from the trail.🎬 Movies in the Wild! Sit back and enjoy a classic adventure film under the stars.🎟️ Raffle & 50/50 Drawing—helping raise funds for Venture Unknown Foundation’s stewardship projects.

☕ Day of Gratitude – Sunday, Aug 10

Before heading home, grab some coffee and join us for a Venture Unknown tradition—the Gratitude Circle. This is a time to reflect, give thanks, and recognize the leadership, teamwork, and memories that made this adventure truly special.

Then… go home, ya filthy animal! You stink, your rig’s covered in dirt, but you’ve just conquered some of Virginia’s best overland trails, shared an incredible experience, and supported a great cause.

THANK YOU for being part of this adventure! Drive safe, and we’ll see you on the next one! 🤘🔥
